Fire Damage Services Q&A

See some common questions and answers related to our fire damage services

  • How to Minimize Business Disruption Following Fire Damage?

Fire damage can be extremely devastating to any business and can occur from any number of situations, ranging from faulty wiring to vandalism. When a building has been damaged by fire, it is crucial to have an emergency plan in place to provide essential services to minimize downtime and mitigate the damages correctly. Guarantee Restoration will provide the essential rapid response, completing an initial damage assessment and developing a project plan once the site has been cleared for entry.

  • What are the Six Different Classes of Fire Damage?

Fires are classified based on how they start. Regardless of the cause, Guarantee Restoration can help restore your building to its pre-loss condition.

    • Class A: Fires that begin from flammable solids (e.g. – wood, paper, plastic, etc.)
    • Class B: Fires that begin from flammable liquids or solids that become liquified (e.g. – gasoline, cooking oil, wax, paint, etc.)
    • Class C: Fires that begin from flammable gases (e.g. – hydrogen, butane, propane, etc.)
    • Class D: Fires that begin from combustible metals (e.g. – potassium, sodium, magnesium, etc.)
    • Class E: Fires that begin from a combination of Class A and Class B factors along with some electrical element.
    • Class F: Fires that begin from cooking oils and fats. In comparison to Class B fires, these burn much hotter and pose a greater threat of extensive damage.
  • What is the Difference Between Primary and Secondary Fire Damage?

Damage sustained from the fire itself is known as primary damage. However, the damage from the flames is only a portion of the equation. Secondary damage from smoke, soot, and water used in firefighting efforts and the building’s fire suppression systems can lead to destruction that is equally if not more costly and time-consuming to repair.

  • What Restoration Steps are Taken Following Fire Damage?

Guarantee Restoration has the experience and resources to secure, stabilize, clean, deodorize, and repair commercial and residential structures following a fire. Below are the steps we take from beginning to end to return your property to its pre-loss condition, all done while keeping you fully informed via regular progress meetings.

    • Fire Damage Assessment

As soon as the structure has been deemed safe for entry by a licensed official, our team can get to work assessing the extent of both primary and secondary fire damage. During this assessment, we will be able to determine the extent of the damage to both the structure and contents to determine a full scope of work and estimated cost.

    • Site Security

Safety and security should always be the initial focus following assessment. Boarding up the building should be an immediate priority. By properly securing the area of  fire damage, we can help ensure the safety of all involved and prevent any cross-contamination to areas of the structure not impacted by the fire.

    • Structure Demolition and Water Extraction

Once a site is secure the next steps will be demolition of any non-salvageable portions of the structure and complete water extraction.

At Guarantee Restoration, we have powerful water extraction equipment for large-scale drying projects that can mitigate water damage in commercial properties. Specialized drying equipment such as trailer-mounted dehumidifiers and desiccants are used for large-scale projects to accelerate the drying process. When working in a large commercial property, moisture removal and quick drying are particularly important to help prevent mold growth. To ensure complete drying, we track and record moisture levels carefully and monitor progress until moisture levels reach the dry standard in the structure.

    • Clean Up

This is the most labor-intensive and time-consuming portion of the fire mitigation process. Our team will take painstaking care and use the most advanced industry tools to fully eradicate your building of smoke, soot, mold, and all other hazards, as well as any lingering odors. In addition, any contents that have been removed from the structure are also thoroughly cleaned before being returned.

    • Reconstruction

Once a fire-damaged building has been fully secured, demoed, dried, and cleaned, reconstruction can begin. Guarantee Restoration is a full-service contractor with a team of technicians, project managers, and subcontractors readily available to perform complete construction repairs. Our team of specialists can expertly handle every aspect of reconstruction from room to floor and all the details in between.

    • Final Walk Through

No Guarantee job is complete until our client is fully pleased. Not only will we keep you informed throughout the process with progress updates, we will also have a final walk through to ensure complete satisfaction at the end of every job.

  • Can Building Contents be Salvaged Following Fire Damage?

While it is almost certain that some contents will be lost after fire damage, our team will work to save all that we can and move those items to our climate-controlled storage facility. This facility comes with the security of a monitored camera and security system. Additionally, storage here can help prevent further damage that could result from storing contents in a non-climate controlled environment.
