6 Classes of Fire Damage

Barrett Dick • March 15, 2023

Fire damage can be devastating and can result in significant losses. Understanding the different classes of fire damage is crucial in determining the appropriate response and mitigation measures. There are six classes of fire damage, each classified based on the type of fuel involved in the fire. Class A fires involve combustible materials like wood, paper, and cloth, while Class B fires involve flammable liquids like gasoline and oil. Class C fires are the product of flammable gases, while Class D fires involve combustible metals. Class E fires include factors from both Class A and Class B in conjunction with an electrical element, and Class F fires involve cooking oils and fats that are hard to extinguish. Each class of fire requires a different approach to effectively combat and mitigate the damage caused.
