5 Traits Of A Team Coordinator

Shawn Folks • Mar 10, 2021

Guarantee Restoration Services is a family owned and operated property damage restoration company. In 1974, it was founded by my parents Ellen and William “Chunky” Folks out of their one-bedroom apartment off College Drive in Baton Rouge, LA. Today, I lead the organization, which consists of over 150 employees and 4 offices (with a 5th office opening soon). We have become the leading property damage restoration company of choice along the Gulf Coast. Our success is founded on treating our team like family, providing continuing education opportunities and promoting from within our current staff.

Each of our team members play a pivotal role in the success of our company each day. Of course, we expect our employees to live out our 5 core values of partnership, commitment, workmanship, honesty and efficiency. In addition to those 5 characteristics, each role has additional traits that are needed to successfully carry out its job duties. On this week’s blog, I will discuss 5 traits of a team coordinator.

At GRS, there are 14 teams that are designated by a color. Each of these teams are comprised one or more project managers, an estimator and/or team lead and a team coordinator. There are repair team coordinators and mitigation team coordinators, each type works with different services our company provides. Our technicians, estimators and project managers depend upon our team coordinators to keep them going effectively each day. The GRS “TCs” also work with our accounting and claims departments.

When writing this blog post, I asked four of our current team coordinators what they believe are the most important traits they need to be successful. Here are 5 traits that our team coordinators use daily:

5 TRAITS OF A TEAM COORDINATOR

1. ORGANIZED

When I asked some of our team coordinators what they find important, the overwhelming most common skill they responded with was being organized. By definition, organized is “having a formal organization or structure, especially to coordinate or carry out for widespread activities.” Our team coordinators keep an organized structure to manage their team or teams. From their desks to emails to paperwork, our TCs have to be organized!

2. EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATOR

Another very common answer was being an effective communicator. During the day, our TCs are communicating with their team’s project managers, estimators and team leads. They also communicate with our branch managers, our Regional Director of Operations, schedule technicians for jobs, speak with customers, work with our claims and accounting departments. Having the ability to interchange correct information with a multitude of people is constantly a key part of this position.

3. MULTI-TASKER

When it comes to most jobs at any company you may work for, most employees wear a lot of hats. Oftentimes, these different responsibilities require you to multi-task. At GRS it is no different, being an efficient team coordinator involves being a multi-tasker as well. One minute a TC may being moving from one job to another, the next they may be providing documentation to project manager or completing paperwork for a project. They are always doing tasks simultaneously!

4. ACCURATE

Another very common response was being accurate. On average, our Baton Rouge branch works on about 50-60 jobs per week. You can imagine the responsibility that puts on all of our team members across production, claims, logistics and management. The “bread and butter” that holds all of it together is the accurate work of our team coordinators. Without them, the projects would not run smoothly and efficiently.

5. GOAL-ORIENTED

Lastly, the fifth trait of a team coordinator is someone that is goal-oriented. Our TCs always have their team’s (or teams’) best interest at heart and aim for the overall success of GRS. They are driven and want to improve themselves both in the workplace and personally. Many of our current team coordinators have started in other departments and worked their way up to where they are now. Others take advantage of their continuing education courses that GRS provides to its team members. They are always looking for ways to improve themselves!

Right now, we have one team coordinator role open at our Lafayette office. We are growing and would love for you to join our team! For a current list of available positions, visit our career website or email your resume to hr@guaranteerestoration.net
