Restoring Your Business Or Home After A Fire

Shawn Folks • June 24, 2020

When a fire strikes a business or home, the first priority is to extinguish the flames and ensure the safety of all occupants of the facility or house. However, once the fire is put out and everyone is accounted for, you are left with a heavily damaged property that is unfit for working or living.

What exactly is fire damage restoration? Simply put, it is the act of cleaning andrestoring property, which also includes belongings that have endured smoke or fire damageUltimately, the goal of fire damage restoration is to salvage damaged items and restore your business or home, so that it can be inhabited once again.

Among several other capabilities, Guarantee Restoration concentrates in providing fire damage restoration services, while utilizing advanced equipment and cleaning products to remove soot or smoke damage. We also eliminate odors from various surfaces and salvage personal items. In addition, our company assists the business or homeowner in making decisions regarding the repair or replacement of certain elements of their property.

After fire damage, it is highly probable that your HVAC system will require either thorough restoration or total replacement. If the HVAC system is not properly restored or replaced, it could release smoke or soot particles into the air. These same soot particles could cause respiratory problems and other health issues for business occupants or home residents.

Furthermore, another important aspect of fire damage restoration is the removal of burned structural components such as, walls, ceilings, and floor coverings. Throughout the property, all structural framing materials are inspected and replaced if any charring or warping has occurred. Sometimes, the structural components are repairable. If that is the case, they are treated with deodorizers to remove any smoke odor. Then, these elements are left to completely dry. Afterward, they are sealed and covered with new drywall and paneling. If this is not done efficiently, the odor will continue to disperse into the property.

We understand how important it is to utilize specialized professionals like us when you experience fire damage. Again, this is to prevent further health hazards or additional damage to your property. Throughout the restoration process, our team at Guarantee Restoration uses one of several methods to neutralize fire odors. These practices include ozone deodorization and wet or dry fogging. Most often, deodorization is done in areas with the least damage initially, progressing to more damaged areas as the process continues. During and after each phase of the restoration process, the property is aired out to reduce volatile organic compounds (also known as, VOCs) from damaging new materials.

All removable or salvageable personal items can be submitted to our office to undergo the fire damage restoration process. At GRS, contents handling is one of the most personal aspects of our business. Our contents division provides a complete service from detailed inventory documentation to contents handling and pack-out. Once contents are removed, they are cleaned, repaired, and stored in our 10,000 square foot warehouse. Upon restoration, the contents are returned to the property.

Saying Hi to July! The summer is here—and so is the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season. No matter what it brings, you can be assured that our team at Guarantee Restoration Services will be there when you need us most. Meet the Team: Marcela Argueta Every month, I have the opportunity to showcase our many awesome team members. For July, we are shining the spotlight on Marcela Argueta , who serves as a Lead Technician at our New Orleans location. She was promoted to that position in January 2025 . From Honduras to GRS Marcela was born and raised in La Ceiba, Honduras , also known as “la novia de Honduras” —which translates to “the bride of Honduras.” She moved to the U.S. in December 2016 after earning her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras . Marcela is currently approved and ready to take her exam to become a registered nurse in the U.S. Before joining our team in August 2022 , she worked as both a nurse and a homemaker . Life Outside of Work Marcela is a proud mother of two—her son, Sebastian (15) and daughter, Eleanor (5) . When she’s not working, she loves spending quality time with her children and extended family. Fun fact: her half-sister, Brenda , also works at GRS in our Baton Rouge office! One of Marcela’s favorite pastimes is going for walks in the park. She says she often uses this time to meditate and reflect—thinking about what she’s done well and what she could improve.
