Prepare Now for Hurricane Season

Zack Klein • March 22, 2022

Along the Gulf Coast, the traditional four seasons of spring, summer, fall, and winter don't always apply. Far more familiar (and reliable) to us is hurricane season. Every year, we wait anxiously to see which storms are forming, how strong they are, and where they are heading. When we find ourselves in the path of one, we scramble to prepare before landfall. Yet, taking some steps to prepare now can set us up for a far less stressful hurricane season in the coming year.

Develop a Hurricane Emergency Plan

It’s never too early to have an emergency plan in place. In fact, planning ahead for disasters like flooding, fire, and severe weather events can drastically decrease their impact on your home or business in the event that they do occur. As part of this plan, find a safe, dry place to store important documents and make sure they are easily accessible in a hurry. Have a supply kit on hand that includes the essentials like first aid supplies, water, batteries, flashlights, and food. Finally, have a predetermined location should evacuation be necessary. While your route may need to change depending on road closures, having at least an idea of where you can go should you need to evacuate your home can save you both headache and time.

Review Your Insurance Before Hurricane Season

Are you aware of your insurance policy, its limits, and what is or is not covered? If you’re uncertain of any of these, it’s important to review your insurance coverage now, before disaster strikes. This gives you plenty of time to consider your options and make any additions that could be necessary while living or operating a business in a hurricane-prone area.

Make Essential Repairs Before Hurricane Season

Regular inspection of your home or business will help you identify any damages or problem areas should a storm hit. By locating and addressing these issues early, you can ensure that they are fully repaired and structurally sound before the damaging winds and heavy rains of a hurricane pass through. The roof should be a particular area of focus during this inspection and any loose or missing shingles replaced immediately.

That peace of mind is precisely what we provide at Guarantee Restoration Services with thorough pre-loss planning services that cover everything from cloud-based documentation of your pre-loss building and contents to a detailed action plan.

Ahh, October. It’s hard to fathom that we’re already on the brink of Halloween — and then, you know how the rest of the year goes. Before long, we’ll be preparing for our last full company meeting, Family Day, and our Thanksmas celebrations. The end of 2025 will be here before we know it! That being said — no matter what the busy season brings — when it comes to property damage emergencies, our team is always there for you. Meet the Team | Whitney Hampton Every month, I have the opportunity to showcase one of our awesome team members. For October, we are excited to introduce you to Whitney Hampton , one of our Gulfport Business Development Representatives. Gulf Coast Roots & Family Life Whitney was born and raised in New Orleans but has split her time between Louisiana and Mississippi throughout her life. She later moved to Gulfport, where she graduated from high school. As a young adult, she lived in Bossier City, LA. Now, she is back on the coast in Biloxi, where she raises her two children, Kohen and Kobi, with her husband. Education & Professional Background Whitney graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Marketing — SMTTT! This December, she’ll be finishing her master’s in marketing with a specialization in Digital Strategy. Before joining our team in December 2023, she worked in property management. Whitney started in leasing, then was promoted to Community Manager, where she received the Best Marketing Award in 2023 . Life Outside of Work Personally, when she is not working, Whitney is usually busy with “The Adventures of Kohen and Kobi.” They love spending their weekends exploring new places, such as the science museum, zoo, or splash pad. Staying active and making fun memories together is what she enjoys most. Sports are a big part of the Hampton household. They are big Philadelphia Eagles fans — GO BIRDS! They also love the Florida Gators and have attended many games in Gainesville. Saturdays and Sundays are definitely football days in their house.
