Spring has Sprung! April has without a doubt already brought the showers. Our team has been busy helping our partners recover from the severe weather along the Gulf Coast this week. This month, we shine the spotlight on Nicole Gregory. She serves as a technician at our Gulfport, Mississippi branch. Nicole was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. She moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast about 20 years ago. After high school, she attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Prior to joining the GRS team in July 2022, she was a nursing assistant for two years. When she is not working, she spends her free time with her 10-year-old son, Dylan. They enjoy roller skating and any fun, outside activities that they can do together. When she can, she likes to fix things around the house. During football season, she loves watching her favorite team, the Las Vegas Raiders. Finally, I asked Nicole what she likes about working for our company. She responded, “I love working with my coworkers, they are my favorite part about working with Guarantee Restoration Services.”

We are back without another Meet the Team blog for March. This month, we are introducing you to Tony Mills, who is a Project Manager at our Jackson, Mississippi office! Tony was born and raised in Lufkin, Texas. After high school, he went to college at TSTI in Waco, Texas, where he majored in steel construction and combination welding. From the mid-1990s to the early 2000s, he worked as the Southeastern U.S. Regional Manager for a steel fabrication company. Then, Tony became a General Contractor for the next 20+ years. We welcomed him to our team in November 2022. When he is not working, most of his free time is spent with his family. He has been married to his wife Marilyn. They will celebrate their 29th wedding anniversary next month. They are parents to Erica (39), Brittany (36) and Justin (31). He is also “Granddaddy" to 5 grandchildren. He said that it is his honor to be called that because of the caliber man his granddaddy was. He, his wife, and his son are avid deer hunters. He and his son have met some of the biggest names in Whitetail Hunting. They have been on some incredible hunts in Illinois, Missouri, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, and of course, Mississippi. They have created a ton of great memories hunting over the years. The Millses love to fish as well. Tony explained that his favorite place to fish is Lake Fork in East Texas. He has fished dozens of bass tournament circuits all across three southern states. In the end, he was so competitive that it took the fun out of fishing. He only fishes for fun now! I think it is safe to say that he and his family love the great outdoors! While I was writing this blog, I asked about what advice he would give fellow employees and leaders. He responded, “my advice for employees is to take advantage of all the free training offered by GRS to help you grow not only as an employee but also as a person. Also, look for opportunities to take risks and become a leader. My advice for those who are leaders is to lead with humility and integrity. Be willing to serve those who are following you so that they can achieve what you already have. Be an encourager and motivator for those that look up to you.” I also asked him what he likes about working for Guarantee Restoration Services. He stated, “I love that GRS focuses on creating an environment that encourages balance, and growth (personal and business) and offers the opportunity for advancement for those willing to take risks and pursue their dreams.” Another question I always ask is if the Meet the Team individual has learned anything new recently. Tony said, “I’ve recently learned, with A LOT of help, to perform “menial” tasks on a computer. I still don’t like it, but I am learning!” Finally, he told me what he wanted to be when he was younger. He said, “My dream jobs as a child were to pro bass fish like my papaw or be a carpenter like my granddaddy.”

After a month hiatus, our Meet the Team feature is back for the first time in 2024. This February, we are shining the spotlight on Maria Wakefield, who serves as one of our Lafayette Team Coordinators. Maria was born and raised in High Point, North Carolina. The city of High Point is also known as the “Furniture Capital of the World.” For the past 17 years, she has lived in Lafayette. She did temporarily move to Jackson, Mississippi in 2021 to help start our branch there with Brandi Rowland. She obtained her Business Administration degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Prior to joining the GRS team, she worked for 5 years as a Health Information Coordinator for a hospice company. When she is not working, Maria enjoys watching and listening to crime shows and podcasts. She also really loves thrift shopping and told me that Goodwill is her mecca! When she is not learning about crimes or shopping, she spends most of her time hanging out with her children, Kira (21), Adrian (17) and Luca (14) . While I was writing this blog, I asked her what she likes about working for Guarantee Restoration Services. She said, “I like working at GRS, because my co-workers and bosses are the best. We have a lot of fun in the office. I know I can count on my people if I need something. They’ve become family, albeit a dysfunctional family, we are still a family.” One other question I always ask is if the Meet the Team individual has learned anything new recently. Maria responded, “Recently, no matter how cliché it is, I have learned that happiness really is found in the mundane. Appreciate even the trivial things in life. That’s where the magic happens!” What a simple truth that is so easy to forget. Finally, she told me what she wanted to be when she was younger. She said, “when I was a kid, I wanted to make funny t-shirts and open a home for teens and young adults with drug and alcohol problems.” It may not have worked out that way, but we have been grateful to have her on our team for 2.5 years.
