Water Mitigation vs. Water Restoration: Understanding the Differences

Barrett Dick • September 28, 2022

While we may receive advanced warnings about hurricanes, there are some water-related events we unfortunately can’t see coming. Whether it’s a burst pipe, leaky dishwasher or a sudden Spring storm that causes your roof to collapse, water damage can strike your property when you least expect it.

Depending on the type of damage caused, water mitigation and water restoration services may be needed. But, what’s the difference?

Water Mitigation Services

Water damage mitigation services help prevent further water damage from affecting your property. Using specialized techniques and equipment, water mitigation services can minimize the amount of loss through:

●      Removal of damaged furniture and other materials like drywall and flooring

●      Water extraction and drying out of the property with the use of commercial-grade equipment

●      Cleaning and disinfecting salvageable belongings and materials

●      Applying tarps, boarding up windows and taking other necessary precautions to protect the integrity of the property

Water Restoration Services

Water damage restoration is the next step after water mitigation. Focused on completely repairing and restoring the water damage caused to a home or property, water restoration services help home and business owners fully recover from all damage and get back to normal. Examples of water restoration services include:

●      Roof repair

●      Replacing flooring and walls

●      Mold elimination

●      Humidity and moisture testing to make sure all issues have been resolved
